Ragged Edge
Sep 19, 2024 · Lead / Onsight. simul climbed the first four pitches with Ryan. Used nearly all the cams and several nuts on the simul section, ran out of draws. Ryan linked the last two pitches to the summit and i followed up. Brought doubles #0.3-1 and singles 0.1, 0.2, 2 and 3 and a set of nuts. Brought about 10 alpine draws and two quickdraws. Probably could have simuled the whole thing if we brought at least 6 more draws and maybe another microtraxion but there would be some decent run outs with that set up. There was a lot of rope drag after the first two pitches, linking the first two and simuling the last four would probably be a better approach for next time. Hardest move was definitely the first moves on the start of pitch 5 stepping out to the right. Probably a little harder than 5.7 and would be left hanging over a roof if you fell here, would need to ascend the rope a little bit to get back on route. Otherwise felt 5.7 and was most of the climbing is more around 5.5-5.6. Overall this is a great moderate alpine trad route in a beautiful setting. No other parties climbing while we were out which was lucky. For the approach hike, we started hiking from the trailhead the night before at 10pm and stopped at 2am (got a bit lost in some fog when going off trail for water) at a shitty uneven rock covered camp site because it was the best we had seen for awhile. The next morning we left camp around 7am and found great campsites near the lake just another 10 min down the trail from our overnight camp site. The hike in and out is definitely doable in a day but would be a long one.

Sep 17, 2023 · Lead / Flash. With Jimmy. We hiked up to the caves camping area the day before and approached from there in the morning. had a tough time finding the start. I led all of the pitches and we were certainly off route for at least several of them but ended up finding our way to the upper exum and took that to the summit. About 12hrs to the summit from the campsite then about 4hrs in the dark to get back to camp. Amazing and tiring day
