Description

Just left of Period Piece, Period Epic is a nice little route which has a few options. For the 5.9 climbing, move left into a corner at 20 feet up and then move right at about 35 feet up. This will lead to clipping the last bolt back to the left when you have it at about knee height. If you go straight up between the last couple bolts, it raises the difficulty to 5.10 with a tricky clip. If someone is planning to follow the route via the 5.9 terrain, remove the draws first to avoid a pendulum fall. Enjoy!

Does anyone know the route between Period Piece and Period Epic? It felt like a long (9 bolts or so) 5.8 or 5.9ish. It's not listed on MountainProject or in the "Shelf Road Rock" guide book. Just curious. Mar 23, 2008

The book says 5 bolts, but we only found 4 on the route and it didn't seem run out. Feb 27, 2009

Dan, I don't think there's a route between these?

Follow the bolts for a solid 10a crux on sharp pockets. 9ish if you bail right. There is a bolt above the bulge which you can't see from the ground which is an awkward clip if you bail right. May 26, 2009

If you follow the natural flow up the bolt line, it's 5.10b.

If you have to "bail right" for this to be 5.9, the route shouldn't be listed as 5.9. This should be listed as 5.10b with the option of bailing right for 5.9 climbing. Mar 21, 2017

Natural bolt line is definitely a little tough for 5.9. Escaping right puts you pretty much on the route next door, and it seems ill advised to call this the recommended line. Clipping would be really scary, especially for those with smaller ape index. Dec 11, 2017
I see the comments about following the bolt line, but I prefer to follow the natural line of movement when climbing, not just follow bolts. Out right, clip last bolt, 5.9 (maybe harder end of 5.8 if, like me, you have a positive ape index). Jan 27, 2018
