This is the first route you encounter on the righthand side of The Dark Side when coming down the road from The Bank campground. It is very unique compared to other Shelf Road routes. The holds reminence of New River Gorge sandstone in some areas. You won't find a lot of pockets here.

It has good holds with two fun roofs. Although this may only have 4 bolts, it's got protection where you need it. The foot holds when pulling the second roof down low can feel pretty slick.

4 bolts with a 2 bolt anchor.

Couple of long moves on big holds. Despite a fragile looking second roof, all of the jugs I ended up using seemed fine. Great route! Jul 13, 2008

Fun roofs on jugs with smaller holds above the 2nd roof. This was my first 5.11 route, I thought it was a lot of fun. Jul 15, 2009

This could use a hardware update. A quick and worthy route. Sep 21, 2014

Classic routes, very, very different style from the walls across the way. I think these two routes are must does for anyone trying to warm up for the day (and or cool down for the night).

Strong moves...trust your feet (and with that being said, keep an eye on your feet on the way up).

That side of the hill seems to get that talcum powder type silt on the bottom holds that could deter you from want to complete, but it blows off up top. Oct 4, 2015

Totally climbable in the rain! Great for an exit lap on the way to the car and much easier than it looks. Jul 30, 2017
