● Zig Zag
Oct 20, 2021 · 4 pitches. Lead / Flash. Definitely run out but on easy terrain when gear was spaced 20-30 ft. Cruxes are easily protectable in solid rock. P1. I climbed direct up the cruiser slab to a LARGE tree and had about 10 feet of rope left of my 70m rope. The bear huggable tree was great for a belay and was approachable by surmounting the beaten path up the first large roof covered with black lichen. I don’t believe this was the intended route for zig zag but it worked out great continuing on from there. Traversing on p1 seemed not easily protectable. Felt 5.7+ P2. Climbed toward the large left facing corner up and to the right, mostly trending right up easy slab until passing a right trending juggy flake with great pro and fun moves. After the flake was easy slab to a 15ft steeper step with great pro. Crux. Felt 5.7+, really enjoyable. Belayed at a small tree backed up by a finger size cam on a small ledge. Comfy. P3. Climbed direct to the summit ridge via easy slab with great pro if you knew where to look. Went up and over the ridge, down maybe 4 feet. And then traversed up and left directly up the ridge on easy but exposed terrain. Made sure to protect my follower from pendulum danger as best I could. Belayed at a fridge sized Boulder before the large last down step on the summit ridge. P4. Fixed point belayed from fridge sized boulder going upward. First down climbed an easy but exposed step heading toward the true summit. Crossed a 20ft section of trail and headed up and left on easy slab to the summit. Belayed from the rap station at the summit. 100ft rap from there to the ground.
