Description Suggest change

Slightly contrived, avoid the Health Hazard arête for the full superfluous experience.

Scramble up the boulder and make easy but unprotected moves to a large flake. Place your first piece and make a couple moves to a bolt. The crux comes just after you clip the bolt, moving through underclings with tenuous feet up to a side pull. Place another piece here or gun it for the top of the arête and risk the fall!

Original finish ends at the Health Hazard anchors.

Alternate finish:

Instead of stopping at the Health Hazard and short people anchor, continue up and left. Place some gear and walk the low angle left trending ramp to a bolt. Another bolt protects a second crux, pulling over the final bulge on crimps and slopers to a ledge with a bolted anchor.

This adds about 10 m of climbing.

Location Suggest change

Begin on the common start for Quarryman and Health Hazard by scrambling up the large boulder. Where Health Hazard (5.10a) moves immediately right past bolts to the blunt arête, Superfluous climbs the face just left.

Protection Suggest change

1-3 bolts, Gear to 1" plus microcams
