Description

The hardest sport climb on the Pass, Insurrection climbs the directissima up the stunning, slightly overhanging shield of marvelous granite in the center of the Lower Grotto Wall. The climbing is crimpy and continuous but also cerebral and surprisingly gymnastic for a route of this angle. With excellent rock, engaging movement and spectacular position, Insurrection is an outstanding hard face climb.

Location

It is located 20 feet right of Knuckle Head, a few feet northeast of the old, dead snag at the base of the Lower Grotto Wall.

Protection

7 bolts to a 2-bolt anchor.

You should send the proj at "outrageous overhangs" too! Jun 3, 2014
Fantastic you climbed this line. I always thought there was potential for a climb to go in there. The Lower Grotto Wall and the Fault Wall at Pukes were futuristic 30 years ago before the rap bolt, power drill era. Congrats on snagging this overlooked plum. Jun 5, 2014

Sick addition by Mark. Best described as dynamic power crimping. Really stoked on this route! Hopefully will continue to get more and more traffic, along with the other testpiece routes on this wall. Aug 23, 2014

This is an incredible route! Mark, you should be very proud, what great vision and courage to bolt this line and commit to establishing it! The moves are so cool, and the rock is as good as it gets in Colorado. I was so psyched to send this thing and close the loop from when we first spotted the line in 2012 (3rd ascent?).

It was also a really cool experience to go camping up on the Pass, waking up before dawn, and having the crag to ourselves. What a great crag! Jun 21, 2016
