Climbing Near Foresthill, California

This is the best boulder at the Mineral Bar. Holds many steep, high-quality climbs. When walking upstream, it is plainly sits in the river bed. Frequently has chalk on it.

A collection of about a dozen river-polished boulders sitting near (or in) the North Fork American River just outside the town of Colfax. Unlike other areas in Auburn State Recreation Area (SRA), Mineral Bar is best approached from Colfax. From I-80, exit 135. Follow Iowa Hill Road for about 3 miles. Park at the trailhead for Pennyweight Trail (Parking/Trailhead GPS: 39.102091, -120.926014). If you get to Mineral Bar Campground, you have gone too far.Make sure to pay the day-use fee at the bridge. Follow Pennyweight Trail from about .5 miles as it descends towards North Fork American River. Once at the river, follow the river upstream for about another .25 miles. All the boulders are obvious and located in the river bed.
