The Columbia Gorge holds some of the best climbing for Portland residents besides the ever-popular Smith Rock. Beacon Rock, the second-largest monolith in the world, is a huge basalt lump with a long history of hard trad climbing. Many other basalt outcroppings lie near the river. Ozone, OH8 and Farside / Dropzone provide accessible sport and trad single pitch climbing to Portland. There is also extensive developed basalt and granite bouldering hidden in the hills. The rock can leave something to be desired but the setting is always beautiful.

Getting There Suggest change

The region is much closer to the Portland OR metropolis region than the population centers in WA, so most approaches will probably start from there.
