Description Suggest change

This area is located on the NW side of Beacon Rock, adjacent to the main parking area and just prior to where the main hikers trail begins going up the rock.

The NW Face includes recently developed routes (2016 onward) as well as a few lines from the Jim Opdycke era and the first route climbed to the summit of Beacon Rock, the Spike Route.

If so desired, many of the climbs can be accessed for top roping by climbing the first pitch of Pleasure Cruise (5.7) and traversing across the big ledge. An adequate number of top anchors exist to facilitate the traverse along the ledge and there are some places for gear as well. Routes readily accessed from the ledge go from Smoke Signals on the left to False Prophets on the right.

When climbing in this area helmets are required by State Park rules and a sign is posted at the entrance to the climbing area. Multi-pitch routes travel above the lower climbs and rock falls can occur, so for your safety please be aware both when climbing above this area for your friends below and when hanging out and climbing below those multi-pitch routes.

Getting There Suggest change

The NW Face is about 50 yards from the main Beacon Rock parking area, where one can find bathrooms, a Discovery Pass kiosk, a picnic area and water spigot. Walk to the west end of the parking lot and just past the water spigot, the climbers' trail enters the wooded area. The climbing routes start immediately on your left.
