Chittenden County is the center of most reported climbing in Vermont with the bulk of modern development in both roped climbing and bouldering happening in Bolton. That said, probably the highest quality rock in the state can be claimed by the Northeast Kingdom (NEK). Smuggler's Notch has cliffs, ice, and pebbles galore to add to the hundreds of boulders in Groton State Park. 

The season in Northern Vermont varies greatly depending on just how far north you venture. The NEK tends to be too cold for climbing by November and smuggs wraps up around the same time. Good climbing can be found reliably in Chittenden County (Burlington/Bolton) into early November.
