South Arete
Aug 10, 2025 · 4 pitches. Lead / Onsight. With the Mounties. Did the climb in 4 pitches with scrambling in between: - Pitch 1: Same as Ian Nicholson’s guidebook - Pitch 2: Combined what Nicholson called pitches 2 and 3 on his guidebook - Pitch 3: Same as what Nicholson calls pitch 4 + a little bit of pitch 5 - Pitch 4: Whale back + some (pitches 7 and 8 on the guidebook) The downclimb went well and we only used a fixed line on whale's back. Rap stations were easy to find and were able to manage with 60m ropes

Sep 1, 2024 · Lead / Onsight. With Kashan, Sam, Bailey, Tracy, and Wally. Second time up the South Face. This time, I paired up with a Mounties Basic student and led all pitches. Fun climbing overall. Did 5 raps total (4th pitch, 2nd pitch, 1st pitch, and down the bolted anchors to the boulder field). 8:40 C2C

Jul 27, 2024 · Lead / Onsight. With Danny. As usual, lots of rope drag shenanigans + a few new rope length issues. P1: I led. Drag wasn’t too bad and I built a rope anchor. P2: Danny led. Not much drag, but didn’t have enough rope to surmount the chimney so we built an anchor at the base. A lady called us on that, questioned our anchor spot choice, and asked us why we didn’t do the route in 3p (lol wut?). After I explained our conundrum, she asked if her group could pass us and then we let them get ahead. P3: I led. Going up the chimney and then as close to you can to the 5.6 crack while staying at the ledge. Gear anchor. P4: Danny led. A 60m is sufficient. However, make sure to extend every piece to reduce drag. We didn’t and I had to ascend to the bottom of the 5.6 crack to reduce it. Once I removed the pieces in this section, we were able to cruise. Even with the challenges, a quick fun romp to get back into multipitch climbing

Jan 27, 2024 · TR. Pretty solid tool placements. Struggled with feet but it’s probably due to the lack of experience
