Description Suggest change

Originally a mixed, bolt/gear line, Split Lizard is now a fully bolted sport climb.

Start on Wilson (5.9) until you enter the main dihedral system. Look out right for a diagonal traverse (crux) into another crack system. Long slings are recommended at the bolts for before and after the traverse. Follow the bolt-line straight up to a set of independent anchors above a ledge.

Take caution at the bolts as you mantel up; while easy and flat, be careful of the choss that accumulates on this flat ledge.

This route makes for a great warm-up at Main Elk and rounds out an excellent 5.10 route. Alternatively, the upper portion of Split Lizard can also be climbed as an extension to Joyful Journey (5.12b).

Location Suggest change

It is right of Wilson and left of Joyful Journey.

Protection Suggest change

15 bolts plus a 2 bolt anchor. A 60 meter rope is mandatory. Knot your ends - it is close.
