I recently visited Cusco and did some climbing. Since the Pachar crag at Ollantaytambo sounded cool I went there. Driving up the valley past Ollantaytambo, one can see a "cleaned line" about 200 meters long, and precisely in the spot the Mtn Pro guide says there are routes. Well, I hiked up a horribly loose talus slope with a full trad rack and found out that the line is cleaned from rock fall. Furthermore, I spent about 3 hours hiking the area trying to find routes. I didn't.

Later that PM, about 1 mile toward Urubamba from Ollantaytambo,I stopped on the left below the weird capsule type things. There are about 8 one or two pitch bolted sport routes. Furthermore, I immediately ran into Peruvian climbers who wanted to share. I've added the info under Cusco-Sacred Valley. Apr 2, 2017
So I'm in Cusco for the rest of the month and I needed some rock under my fingers. I googled climbing in the area and some sites/blogs but unfortunately they aren't very informative on where these spots are. I tried emailing these people but of course no answers. So to all of you where is the bouldering in Cusco, Peru. Also if anyone knows where to score a crash pad here that would be great as well. Thanks. Apr 13, 2016

I'm stationed in Arequipa for about 5 more month and want to explore climbing outdoors. I've met a couple of people who climb who said they are going to take me to a few places. I can update and take pictures when that happens and I also know of a great climbing gym here in Arequipa with a great bouldering section and a decent trad(?) wall. I've never climbed with ropes, so forgive my ignorance. Drop me a line if you're in my area! Feb 15, 2015

Piura Outdoors

This link is to contact Marlon Neyra, who started Piura Outdoors a year ago, They do a lot of climbing in and around Piura, northern Peru. Anyone working with Mountain Project who fluently speaks Spanish should contact him and invite him to update areas in Northern Peru. I have spent a lot of time there and would love to see that part of the country rise in visits from the climbing community. Thanks Sep 6, 2013

I would welcome someone emailing me a better description of peru so I can put it up. At the time I was more concerned with getting peru in the directory structure so people could easily post specific locations under the country. Jul 18, 2008

Lots of people have discovered Peru's climbing... and how about something a little more informative, like an overview of the types of climbing found there and a brief list of some of the classic destinations, at least. This is the home page of an entire country - it's worth more than a single sentence. Apr 7, 2008
