DescriptionA nice mountain to climb, easily visible from the town of Huaraz, noticable from its double peaks. One of the most popular mountains to climb due to its accesibility and relatively easy southwest route to the top.
Getting ThereA taxi is necessary, or private combi. These could run up to 100 soles one way depending on your negotiating skills. The road is drivable albeit quite bumpy in spots. At the end of the road is a nice refugio which would be a great place to hang out in if it's open. Unfortunately it used only for the local guiding school so it's kept locked up. Ask about it at the Casa de Guias. Base camp is right next to it.
The trailhead to Vallunaraju and the moraine camp is a 5-10 minute walk back down the road and marked by a large sign and obvious stairs. Can't miss it.
