Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Boulder, Utah.
This area encompasses cliffs near the Lower Calf Creek Falls hike and campground. Lower Calf Creek Falls is a popular flat hike to a nice waterfall between the towns of Escalante and Boulder, Utah. Drive scenic highway 12 between Boulder Utah and Escalante, Utah.
This place couldn't be more suited to the lazy soft rock climber. Stumble out the car door and you can climb with in 5 steps. Longer approaches await the motivated climber willing to do some exploring. The best way is to drive to Boulder Utah and the signage is very well marked, it's one of the only towns tourism draws so locals will know where it is. Also at the entrance to the Burr Trail there is a nice restaurant/brewery to grab some beer and grub. Get on the Burr Trail road and head east until you reach Long Canyon. The climbing will be directly off the road and obvious.
Very pleasant riparian setting. Even in the heat of summer, this shady site, with the river ever present, the Fly Catchers and Warblers flitting about, the relative isolation, all makes for a splendid outing. The rock is remarkably good (but I have been known to be a "choss guzzler") and the descents are for the most part, easy. V1-7. Mats, and aqua shoes for the approach are needed. There is not an ER within hours so be prudent. But the last river to be placed on an American map flows at the base of many lines. The "E"scalante "R"iver. This place has a good deal of potential. Do not know who started working this area but there is chalk on these most of the year. More FAs to be had as well as other sub area boulders.Someone else can name the lines and put up their take on difficulty. I just highlighted the obvious.Be nice to this place and respect the birders and hikers on the trail near by. Off of HW 12 between the Utah towns of Escalante and Boulder where the river crosses the road, park in the designated Escalante River trail-head parking. Walk the trail or better yet, walk the river (a foot deep) up stream. About a quarter of a mile for both options. Each leads to the no miss ER Boulders. Keep the place clean and quite (no loud music) so as to maintain access in that the trail is used by hikers and birders alike. This is a beautiful spot. Lets all work hard to keep it that way.
