Climbing Near Junction, Utah

Located west of Marysvale. An old mining ghost town, the Miners' Park Interpretive Area holds many interesting ruins. Following the switchbacks up Mt. Brigham on the south side of the canyon will lead you to the long rambling climb at Cascade Falls, or you can follow the trail hugging the north side of the canyon to Bullion Falls. Best done during a cold dry winter when the canyon can be driven to easily. Otherwise, you're in for a very long day on skis in heavy snow. From downtown Marysvale, drive west on Center Street for 1.4 miles and go left on Bullion Canyon Road. Drive 4 miles until you reach a bridge crossing Pine Creek. The trail begins on the right side of the road just before the bridge, but you need to cross the bridge to get to the parking area. After passing the first building, the trail reaches a second structure where a road takes off to the right. Continue straight, and you soon reach two switchbacks where the trail climbs out of the canyon bottom to travel well above the cascading stream. A few hundred yards after the switchbacks, you reach a talus slope. If you look carefully (and there is enough runoff), it’s possible to see Cascade Falls on the other side of the canyon where a creek tumbles down the side of Mount Brigham. At 0.9 mile you reach the end of the ATV route where there is a large sign describing the Bullion Canyon Trail system. A smaller sign with an arrow points the way to Bullion Falls. After a fairly steep climb, the trail reaches the overlook for the falls in a couple of hundred yards.

Beaver Canyon is east of town in the Tushar Mountains. There is a lot of rock in the canyon of varying quality. The rock tends to be either conglomerate or volcanic in nature; either welded tuff or basalt. There may be a bit of granite high up. Get off I-15 at either of the beaver exits 112 or 109 and head onto main street then turn onto 200 north as if you were headed to Eagle Point Ski Resort. This road will become highway 153. Follow this road and you will end up in the canyon.

There are a few routes up this canyon including trad, sport, and bouldering. It has some decent rock quality, and there are lots of places just waiting for first ascents. Get off I-15 at either of the Beaver exits (112 or 109) and head into the center of town on Main St. Then, turn west (right if coming from exit 109; left if coming from exit 112) onto 200 North/SR 153. Follow this road up the canyon until you see the Ponderosa Picnic Area sign, just before mile marker 9. Beaver Boulder is just behind the Ponderosa Picnic Area sign on the south side/right coming from Beaver.
