Description
This area is located between the quarry and the very popular prairie walls area. This area has something for everyone, from fun moderate routes to hard cracks, thin faces, and large roofs. This area is especially nice in the summertime, as most of cliff line is shaded by trees.
Getting There
There are a few ways to reach this area. From the south:
Leaving the south parking lot, head up the hill towards the quarry. Once in the quarry there is a marked trail called the Bur Oak Trail, taking this path will lead down hill and across a small creek then back up hill towards the cliff face. At the top of the hill will be Orc wall, the most southern buttress in the north quarry area.
Leaving the south parking lot, head out on the paved bike path. There is an outhouse on the path and behind the outhouse is a mowed trail leading towards the trees, labeled Bur Oak Trail. Taking this trail will lead into the trees and a fork in the trail, left leads you into the quarry and right leads you towards the cliff line. Heading right will lead up hill and towards Orc wall.
Getting there From the prairie walls area:
From the south parking lot walk the paved bike path, past the out house. Keep walking until the cliff line comes into clear view, a nice mowed path leads from the paved bike path straight up hill towards the cliff. A sign that says 2 mile loop is at the start of the path. Once at the base of the cliff head south (left if looking at the cliff) on another mowed trail. This path will continue down the cliff line until it turns and heads to the top of the cliff (past yellow lichen, bokes, and tree ledge buttress). About half way up the hill there will be a path heading further south, usually a little overgrown and might require some bushwhacking. Follow the cliff line until you hit Bison Buttress (thanksgiving day buttress), this is the northern most buttress for north quarry area.
The buttress in order from south to north: Orc wall, Two Boulders buttress, Primitive Buttress (Raspberry rock), Kanaranzi Buttress, Little Ranzi Buttress, Flattop Buttress, Tyrannosaurus and Bison buttress (Thanksgiving day)
