Closures effective as of the day after Martin Luther King Day- July 3. Check closure website for details on closed areas.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Condors have been establishing nests at the Pinnacles National Monument. Since condors develop to fledgling more slowly than raptors and vultures closures due to condor nesting is extended past the usual Martin Luther King Day to July 3rd. Again, please check the "Current Raptor Advisory" section of the NPS website and/or the Friends of Pinnacles website for current closures.
As of July 2024 there are three active Condor nests at Pinnacles National Park.
The Machete Ridge area is closed from Pigeon Crack on west face then west around the south side to The Hideout including the popular Old Original.
All climbing routes at Crowley Towers are closed.
All routes on the Yaks and Yaks Wall plus Marauder.
Description
Climb 12' straight up to a bolt, then traverse left to the next bolt, then straight up past more bolts to the bulge near the top. The bulge can be passed by going left. Two bolt anchor. No rap rings.
Descent (As per JC w/KC redux) - scramble up to the top (climber's right), keep walking and you'll see a great 3rd class way down - puts you at the top of the hill/trail/backside of the Flumes formation (I'll post some pictures too). Walk back down the trail to the base of the route.
The rock is not solid in many places, and there is loose gravel going around the bulge. The route is protected well. It's pretty fun. There are two crux areas: getting off the ground and going above the seem.
The name of the route was gleaned from the Mud N' Crud website.
