Climbing Near Altamont, Utah

Where no one would think to go for ice, the high desert canyons near Duchesne have a good selection of high quality routes and potential for more. The Right Fork of Indian Canyon and The Strawberry Pinnacles are the standout areas. The regularly forming area classics of Raven Falls (Rt. Fork) and Dead Deer Falls (Pinnacles) are the go to lines. More moderate lines like Cold Harbor and Eagle Falls (both in The Pinnacles) are also form consistently.  From Salt Lake take I-80 East past Kimball Junction to Highway 40 East towards Heber City. Continue straight through main street Heber City (still Hwy. 40) and continue straight out of town up over Daniels Summit. The exit for the Strawberry Pinnacles will be just past the Sinclair Station/Big G as you descend down a small hill and curve. For Indian Canyon continue on Highway 40 into Duchesne and look for a right turn towards Price.

Small sandstone bouldering area by Moon Lake Utah After arriving at Moon lake, take trail on west side of lake. Follow trail for about a mile and a half. There is an obvious 15 feet tall boulder on the left hand side of the trail and two boulders in the small talus field just below. There is another boulder 5 minutes further up the trail on the right with a few problems on its backside.
