Description

The Raven is a west-facing ~25 meter cliff just above Mason Creek. It faces the East end of Dines Cliff The central part of the cliff has overhanging rock. The south end has lower angles and a gentle slab.

Access to the cliff top is easy to the south.

Getting There

Take the Mason Creek trail about 3/4 of a mile. This will take you past the first creekside rest stop with several benches. The next creekside benches are at the waterfall. Stay on the Mason Creek trail another 10 yards to the clearing where a large log spans the creek. Cross the creek here. From the log, follow the climbers access trail up and right for 20 yards to the base of the cliff.

Excellent beginner & moderate routes on the right. Harder routes in the middle & left side.
There is potential for more hard routes. Sep 10, 2017

We had a bit of trouble finding this crag only because we didn't walk far enough on the Mason Creek trail before looking for the creek crossing. There are two very obvious and separate little areas of log benches right on the creek. Just past the second one is a new beautiful carved wooden sign indicating the Raven climbing wall. Once you see the sign, you're there!

This crag is awesome! Another great addition to an awesome park. We were fortunate enough to meet Russ who did some of the bolting here at The Raven (as well as Dines and other cliffs around Staunton), and he gave us some beta on the newer lines. Don't let the ratings here fool you - we went to this crag with a plan of climbing super easy, but every route was tricky in its own way. Interesting and varied lines made for a really fun little day. I can't wait to go back and finish off the rest of the routes. Russ and Alan and all the bolters in Staunton are doing awesome things! Thanks, guys! We really had a great time here! Jul 2, 2018

Does anyone know if the anchors here are the clip in variety (i.e. no need for any slings/biners/etc. just set your rope into the clips) or the bolt/chain/etc variety (i.e. you need slings/QDs/biners, etc. to build your anchor)? Aug 22, 2018
