Access Issue: Effective May 2025 - Climbing Fixed Hardware Authorization Process for BLM walls at Diablo Details

The BLM Taos Field Office implemented a Climbing Fixed Hardware Authorization Process for routes within its management area. The Diablo walls included in this plan are The Shack, Winter Wall, Sun Devil Wall, Solar Cave, Lake Street and Styx. The final document can be found online: shorturl.at/FYn4f

Description

North Facing wall with a wide variety of routes. The highest concentration of trad lines are found here, and a couple really good 5.12s.

A good warm season destination. In the summer, the left side of the wall is in the sun until maybe 10:30am. Also, the far right side of the wall goes into the sun in late afternoon. In the shoulder season, very little sun on this wall.

Getting There

This is the north facing buttress directly in front of you as you hike up the canyon bottom.
