Description

A beautiful gem of a National Park where the Sierra's and Cascades meet. Volcanic rock with many choices of style grade and approach.
For those interested in spending anything more than a day, and there is a lot in the park, Paul Bernard's excellent book "Rock Climbs of Northeast California" is well worth having.

Getting There

Several areas, but mainly Eagle Peak, Bellybutton & Raker Peak. 30+ minute approaches for most crags.

belly button - rock has poor patina on LHS crag, especially on lower cliff band. Lots of loose rock on the upper sections - wear helmet. some difficult gear placements and spacey bolts, probably not for beginners..
main belly button area has really unstable scree base. The rock has awesome patina, bolts are a bit spacey like Ceuse, pumpy enduro with hard to find holds and a bit greasy in the sun, routes around 6c-7a+. Oct 16, 2014
Does anyone know if The Vulcan's Eye is climbable yet?

My GF and I wanna get up there in the next couple days.

We would love if anyone else wanted to join for some camping and climbing.

Thanks Jun 24, 2016
