Description
The Roadside Distraction Area is a short cliff band below and to the South of the main cliff band of Raker Peak.
The approach is shorter to this area but the climbing tends to be much harder than anywhere else in Lassen National Park. Steep to overhanging routes with sharp finger numbing pockets and gritty crunchy edges along with needle piercingly sharp cracks is what you're going to find here. If you're looking for the hardest routes in Lassen County, look no further.
Getting There
There are two pullouts one can use to access the Roadside attraction area. From the North entrance, locate the last pullout which is on the right (West) side of the road below the cliff band, about .5 miles before the day use paring area. Walk along the base of the hillside staying in the flat wooded area for about 1/4 mile. Watch for a series of conspicuous cairns sitting on top of boulders that mark the start of the trail, or head strait up the annoyingly steep, loose and sandy hillside. If you find the trail, the approach is not too difficult and only a little hard to follow. If you miss it, its nearly epic.
