Description

Amphitheater climbs are one of the closest to the parking lot and are easily accessible from the railroad tracks via a marked trail.

Winter 2018 Update - BE ADVISED THE TRAIN IS USING THE TRACKS THIS WINTER !  Dec 17th, 2018 around noon I saw a single engine plowing the tracks through the "cut" at the top of the notch. (By Elephant Head) and can only assume the engine cleared the whole way from Bartlett through the notch. The Conway Scenic Railroad ("CSR"] website, although saying operations ceased for 2018, also list a "Notch Train" as a possible train this winter.  Earlier in Nov/Dec I had thought I'd seen evidence of the tracks being plowed, but didn't believe it. The CSR is under new ownership, so they may be planning winter trains.  R Hall NH Admin.

Getting There

As you walk from the parking area along the railroad tracks, the Amphitheater climbs are visible on the left from the trestle. The trail leading directly to Pegasus and Chia starts just before the bridge.
