Seasonal Raptor Closures Details

Description

Start is on the east side of Teaching Rock. Go past the chimney formed between Teaching Rock and a small pillar. The start is to the right and below the chimney, at a bulge. An obvious bolt is within reach on the bulge. Start on or under the bulge. Maneuver around the bulge to reach the face. Solid face moves to the top.

Location

Approach The Camel from the Rim Trail. East face of Teaching Rock (another name for the "hump" of the camel) is facing the neck and head of the camel. Trail leads around the south side of Teaching rock and down, past a chimney, to the start. Rappel or walk off.

Protection

8 quickdraws
3 bolt anchor at the top (shared with a 5.9 route on the west face of Teaching Rock)

The loose quality of the rock on this "direct" variation of Sinbad makes me think avoiding it in favor of Sinbad might be a better option. Nov 27, 2011

Low crux leads to easy, well-protected knob hauling above. A nice addition to the area. Oct 2, 2011
