Description Suggest change

The Santa Rosa Mountain Range is located about 25 miles (30min) north of Winnemucca, NV. It has a numerous rock outcrops consisting of a variety of rock types including rhyolitic tuff, granite, and basalt.

The bulk of the established climbing is located on the east side of the Santa Rosa Range in Paradise Valley (rhyolitic tuff). But there is other climbing potential on the west side of the Santa Rosa Range in Falls Canyon (ice/dark phyllite), the Sawtooth Mountain Area (granite), and possibly in the Southern Outcrops (probably rhyolitic tuff).

Most of the mountain range is managed by the Forest Service. There is a wilderness area up high in the Santa Rosa Range that is especially close to The Sawtooth Mountain area. See here for more info and maps of the Santa Rosa-Paradise Peak Wilderness area: https://wilderness.net/visit-wilderness/?ID=532#general. Some of the areas down low on the mountain are managed by BLM. There are bits of private land mixed in too, so be careful not to trespass and stay out of areas posted as no trespassing.

Getting There Suggest change

From Winnemucca, drive north on hwy 95 for 22.1 miles, where there is a Sinclair Dinosaur gas station. At this point you are essentially at the southern extent of the Santa Rosa Mountain Range.

From here you will either go NE on hwy 290 to get to the Paradise Valley climbing or you will continue NW on hwy 95 to get to the other climbing locations on the west side of the Santa Rosa Range.
