Description
The west side of the Southern Pillar contains the vast majority of the routes in this area. Many classics can be found here including Roy Gap Chimneys (5.6), Block Party (5.8), Right Tope (5.9), Electric Chair (5.9), Climbin' Punishment (5.9+), Slipstream (5.10a), Daytripper (5.10a), and Ambush (5.11a). The upper tier to the right and up around the corner contains a few good routes as well such as Fear of Flying (5.8) and Fear of Flailing (5.8).
There are many bolted anchors in the area to help facilitate descent. Most of these are described in the individual routes. The main rappel line is from the top of Climbin' Punishment's original 3rd pitch and down into Roy Gap Chimneys. If you do Gephardt-Dufty, rappel off to climber's right from the tree at the very top and access the the previously mentioned anchors on Climbin' Punishment.
Because of it's relative shadiness and the cool air from Roy Gap Chimneys (which can act like a refrigerator), this area of Seneca is a good spot to be on warmer summer days.
