Description

A relatively long approach keeps most people away from this wall, although there are some worthwhile lines here. The Big Chimney (5.7x) is the primary feature on this wall.

Getting There

Bushwack and scramble your way upstream past the Star Wall.

The approach for this wall is only "relatively long" by lower gorge standards. Even with thick undergrowth, it takes 5 minutes max to reach Jungle land from Star Wall. Getting to the East columns when the water is to high to rock hop takes far longer. Besides the existing routes here, there is much potential for new routes underneath the bushes and lichen covering some of the taller columns right of Masquerade and some obvious looking columns await exploration to the left of that route as well. The recent addition of Charlie Don't Surf offers a more difficult but less gross way to access the Masquerade anchors than the traditional chimney approach. The new anchors for Charlie Don't Surf allow for an easy toprope of Masquerade as well (not that doing the moves on Masquerade will feel easy!) Those two routes together more than justify the short bushwhack out to Jungle Land, and are both routes that should be on the to-do list of any aspiring Lower Gorge hardperson or anyone looking to sample some harder basalt climbing without venturing to the upper gorge.
