Description
A four pitch route which we climbed on our first day here. Pitch one is the crux and felt hard for the grade while pitches two through four were all about 5.9.
Decent:
There are two options to descend. You can do 2x 35M raps (not described here because I haven't done it -- but it's in the guide book) OR you can do the more fun 1x 80M rap straight down the middle of Grande Grotta.
To access this option, after the final pitch which finishes on a slightly rusty anchor on a very low angle ledge. Continue up the gully to right climbers right, walking along 3rd class terrain. Walk climbers right about 5-10m, if you spot a single bolt on the left side of the wall you're headed in the correct direction. You'll easily spot the down climb to, two sets of anchors. You'll need to down climb ~3rd class terrain for 15ft or so to reach the anchors. From here, pick either anchor and setup a rappel. The guidebook claims you need 2x 80M ropes but I measured both of ours and I had 10-12 arm spans left so it seems 2x 70M ropes would work...but tie some knots to be sure. You can stage your 2nd rope on the ground and have the first person to rappel(single strand) tie ropes together on the ground and 2nd person can pull it back up and setup a standard 2 strand rappel with both ropes. This saves you the hassles of climbing with two ropes.
