Description

This is yet another great Mural Wall route. Not as classic as The Mural or Monet, but with the boulder problem start, the difficult climbing is a bit longer.

This is the farthest right of the routes on the Mural Wall. Begin with a boulder problem involving a thin move to a large hole. A decent rest can be had before launching onto the steeper, blanker part of the wall. Sustained pockets and edges lead to some juggy pockets below a final bulge. Tricky back and forth climbing gets you through the bulge and to the anchors.

Protection

8 bolts to an anchor.

Easier than Monet, great climbing with a strange (contrived?) finish. Jan 27, 2016

Hardware upgraded 4-25-15. Some hangers swapped to modern hangers. 4 new 1/2" stainless lead bolts plus anchors (shared with Monet). Thanks to ASCA for the hardware! Apr 27, 2015

This is definitely my favorite route on The Mural Wall. The Mural has some hard climbing, but the bottom part of the route is nothing special. It's approach climbing. Motif is interesting the whole way with the hard start using a mono, a second crux at 4th bolt, and more hard sections to the last bolt. Well worth repeating. Good value for your crag dollar. I enjoyed this more than Monet and The Mural. Good clipping holds/stances and great crux sequences. Note that I do no like monos, which exist on Monet and The Mural but not Motif. Apr 14, 2013

I disagree with the comment "Not as classic as Monet or The Mural" - even if this is the consensus. Motif is an exceptional route with 3 distinct cruxes: the boulder problem start, the thin middle crux, and the sequential upper crux offer brilliant climbing! The first 2 cruxes are harder than the upper crux, but take your rest before firing up to the ledge! Mar 18, 2013
