I bet if you get a little more integrated into your local Sacramento gym scene you'll learn about a lot of places your peers there are hitting every weekend.

I want to thank you personally, so much.  You've really taken some time with me... and I appreciate it.  Truckee will be my next mission.  And I have to hope that climbing more at Pipeworks and Granite Arch will eventually produce some reliable climbing partners.  I could have chosen an easier sport... like bowling!  So often I'm ready to go... and no one to call.

Hey Lori,  If you are on a road trip between June & Oct. in or around Utah, and want some great camping/climbing in an alpine setting, I would be happy to show you around the Jungle.

There are some sweet lines up there in the 7-9s...or perhaps by that time you will be doing 12s!

Lori, find a guide or an experienced MP member to take you up this.

Jeff, these are amazing pictures!  Went back and looked at everything you posted here... wow.  I'm SO new, that it's all a bit intimidating (but thrilling).  Thank you!

That looks crazy fun!  Right up the road from me!  I'll find someone to take me up there.  Still trying to make that transition from needing a guide to stepping into the big girl shoes and making my own way.
Turns out I may be making one more unscheduled trip to Joshua Tree in a few weeks.  My mom recently died, and her estate is requiring me to be nearby.  So, if I had a few more days with Nelson (guide), I think I would ask him to start weaning me.  Take me out, let me carry my own rope and gear, and setting anchors.  It's been a fun but selfish journey so far... I'm ready to learn how to be a decent partner.  Thanks for this link... inspiring!

Question: on Mountain Project, is there a place to note climbs you didn't finish but are working on?  https://www.mountainproject.com/route/107115432/give-a-mouse-a-cookie
I never got to the top of this one.  But I gave it a good 3 hours worth of trying.  I'd like to remember it, and go back to it again.  It''s not a 'tick', right?  What is it?

I also meant to ask... what do you do with an unlisted route?  How do you document it as a tick?  I know where it was, and about how hard it was... but it's not in any book or on MP.

Lori, use your ticks as you wish. There is a field to add notes. Getting to the top isn't the only criteria, IMO. Just don't star or grade it yet.

For unlisted routes, you can add them, if the area is already in here, and it is appropriate. Not all routes should be included.

There is also a generic area, where those routes can be placed, if you want to record them but not put in much info. See "Be Kind" on my to do list for an example. It does not exist, yet, as far as I know.

Hope this helps!

Best, OLH

Thank you Helen.  That's a wonderful answer.  I fall off more routes than I make... but I want to remember them!  THANK YOU!

If you want to just remember them for a later try, add them to your 'To Do' list.
And corrugation corner is very old school 5.7. I have seen solid 5.9 climbers whimper on it. There is a classic link up, climb surrealistic pillar, walk over to CC. A great day. Just be aware that CC is exposed, steep, long, and REALLY REALLY FUN!

Thank you, Muscrat.  This is a beautiful route!  With these suggestions I am realizing that my big challenge is just to find friends.  I have spent a lot of money on guides--and some time with groups.  It's just taking time to find people to climb with.  When I was 18 this would have been easy...   (not complaining, just a bit frustrated.)

Maybe try something like this:

https://americanalpineclub.org/international-climbers-meet/

I did it once and I am still friends with a lot of people from the event.  It's a quick way to meet upwards of 50 potential partners and spend a week seeing how you do together.  The age range is wide.  When I went it had attendees from their teens to their 60s.  I don't believe anyone felt out of place. It was a great experience!

ETA: For what it's worth, I would rather climb with someone in their 60's (or older) than an 18 year old.  You are articulate and fit, and you seem nice.  I don't think you are going to run into much trouble.

Welcome to climbing. Partners is the #1 issue for many, especially if you aren't a rope gun!

Hi. I hardly feel like I belong here (in this forum) but I'd love to talk with some other 'mature' climbers... Trouble is... I'm climbing with 20+ year olds, which is fine,...

Yeah, me too...I started when I was 61, about 6 years ago. I too climb (in the gym) with kids 16-26, and I'll never be an accomplished climber, but I do have my fun. No, I'll not likely ever do as well as any of them, but we "relate", as it's all about the fun, the overcoming of the challenge, and just visiting. I suppose that it helps that I supervise the local climbing gym, but maybe not. It's probably all in the attitude as we all have our fun. They're good gym climbers, I've climbed real mountains. So don't worry about "relating" too much, just visit with them and learn/teach as is appropriate.

Or, you could get A small; the least expensive, Point and Shoot camera,( dedicated phone?)  &  just record your rocks:  My Album, records my rocks,

Michael... thank you for this!  I have my guide at JTree laughing, because after most climbs I insist I want a 'recount' on the grade.  On one climb, I said I wanted to 'take it up with the committee'.  It was NO WAY a 5.6.  And then it occurred to me... there SHOULD be a committee!  I nominate myself to head it up!
Interestingly, on the 5.10b I couldn't climb (on Turtle Rock), Nelson said he felt it was easily in the 11's.  He hadn't climbed it before and had some real challenge getting up the crux.  So... who the heck grades these?  I love the idea of a dedicated phone... I have an old small iPhone that could easily go up just for pictures. (when I'm not hanging on for dear life.)

Thank you!

Michael... Read this thread by Rgold... printed it out, and will be taking it to my therapist.  This may require some weeks of soothing and calming.     A year and a half out there, and I could not check off ONE of the items on this list.  How do I even start?  Where would I begin?  I want to be a decent partner...
Looking for Epsom salts for the brain.  :-(

Lori,

Ben and I developed this crag just for you. Good place to practice the issues you're concerned with.
