Lots and Lots of limestone. Some of it is very good, some of it is terrible - on some routes, you may experience both varieties. This place, and all of Mount Maurice, burned in the summer of 2021, leaving not a single live tree. It's a surreal place that looks over the vast Bighorn Basin to the Pryors, Bighorns, and beyond. It has seen some development over the years, but certain walls, especially the large shaded overhanging walls 1/4 mile up South Grove Creek, could and should see a lot more sport climbs slapped up.
An impressive spire on public land with a 15-25 minute approach and a bolted rappel... What's not to love? Set odometer at the start of Meeteetse Trail road when leaving Red Lodge. Drive 5.4 miles and you will see a small spur road jut off to the right. You can either park here, leaving room for others to pass, or you can drive the 100 yards up the often rough road and park at the end of the road. From the end of the spur road, look for a trail heading uphill towards all the rock. You'll follow this as it trends up and right towards the spire. To get on the spire, contour it to the notch on the uphill side. Some short 5.3 steps will get you to the notch and a nice belay platform with a beautiful view over the plains.
A 400' wall of excellent limestone that goes into the shade around 11a.m. in the summer. Drive to a large pullout 5.6 miles from the start of Meeteetsee Trail Road just south of Red Lodge on Highway 212. Park here and walk up the steep spur road. No trail goes to the wall from here, so just weave your way uphill to the base of the wall. Walking into the gully then behind the fin of limestone and wrapping up and around to the front of the wall is generally easier than walking the steep, loose hill directly below the wall, but both are doable. 15-30 min walk.
