- No hiking, nature walking, or Twilight-related sightseeing is allowed – even if a member. Rock climbing is the only approved – activity on the property.
- All Carver Climbing Club rules need to be policed by our members. We are at a pivotal point in maintaining access to this private property and we all need to contribute.
- It is your responsibility to stay up to date on the current rules, which are always available on the Carver Climbing Club website. Failure to know or adhere to the current rules threatens access for everyone.
- Permission to use the properties is still discretionary and can be withdrawn at any time, for any reason, by the property owners.
Respect the land owner's property, don't litter, don't add or remove any bolts without permission, etc. It would be a big loss to the Portland climbing community if Carver were to be closed to us so do your part to keep it open and accessible. Description
The Main Forest comprises everything between the parking lot and the cliffs above. There is a great trail system connecting every major boulder, please use only the paths already in place.
Getting There
Map directions to Stone Cliff Inn and drive up to the parking lot. Climbers are only permitted to park in the circular parking area in the southeast section of the lot, left of the dumpsters. There is a path leading into the Columbia Boulders from this area of the parking lot. Another path exists just to the right of here and leads to the Yosemite Boulders. There is zero approach from this lot.
There is an additional parking area on the intersection of S Hattan Rd and S Gronlund Rd, near Pioneer Church. Use this parking if the gate to the Stone Cliff Inn is closed. The Stone Cliff Inn also asks climbers to use this parking lot after 5pm and on holidays. From this lot, walk through the grassy field, past Pioneer Church, past the Baker Cabin Historical Site, and find a foot path leading NW through some brush and passing a house on your right. This leads you to the Stone Cliff Inn's employee parking lot. Keep walking through the parking lot and find the Main Forest to your left (west). 5-10 minute, flat approach.
One more entrance to the Main Forest exists. Park at the intersection of S Hattan Rd and S Gronlund Rd, and walk up Stone Cliff Lane, around the driveway gate, and find a climber's trail to your right. This path is described on the Carver Climbing Club rules page as a path that members may take. The map they have on their website however draws the path as starting outside of the gate, whereas it's just beyond it. Expect a 5-10 minute, somewhat steep approach. You'll pass the Titlest Boulders and wind up at the Carver Cliff where sport and trad routes exist. The first path downhill takes you to the Birthday Boulders. Keep walking along the cliff band to find the Triangle Boulders. Standard Overhang V3 will be the first boulder on your right and sits at the foot of Angular Motion 5.12a.
