Description Suggest change

The bouldering potential in the Mount Washington Valley is endless in quantity and quality. The boulders located underneath the Guides Wall have both of these attributes. Located in a large talus field, the boulders are rather close together which makes access and circuit potential easy. The talus field has a mixture of low and highballs, with most boulders having nice flat landings. There is evidence of people climbing here in the past, but many boulders await exploration. The best part is that little brushing is required to put up new lines!

Routes were originally added on an individual basis, but in 2024 sub-areas were added to efficiently organize this large area.Sub-areas are numbered Right to Left as you would hike to them coming from Cathedral parking.

Getting There Suggest change

There are two options:

1. Recommended- better parking. Park at Cathedral Ledge. Take the Bryce Link hiking trail (yellow blazes) until you reach the Bryce Path intersection. Take the unmarked ( unblazed) path directly in front of you [photo] leading past Bouchard’s Cabin remains.  Bryce  Path is a 90-degree right, Whitehorse Ledge trail is a slight bear left. ( before the Hotel was built in the mid-1980’s this was the standard approach to climbs on Whitehorse.)

2. Park in the maintenance lot at the White Mountain Hotel. Approach as to the Whitehorse slabs and take a right onto the yellow blazed Whitehorse Ledge Trail. Walk until you reach the intersection for the Bryce Path and take a hard left onto the unmarked trail that leads up past the remains of “Bouchard’s Cabin”. Bouchard’s Boulder will shortly appear in front of you.
It is also possible to make a less-hard left onto the Bryce Path. As you walk on the Bryce Path, take a left into the large talus field where the blue-blazed property boundary meets the Path. However, in a few feet you’ll meet a downed tree that will be a “ pain” with a crash pad on your back.

Both approaches take approximately the same amount of time,( 8-10 minutes ! )  but there is usually more parking at Cathedral Ledge. There’s also another boulder field at the base of cathedral so don't get distracted!
