Description
In addition to several excellent climbing gyms, Metro-Boston has some outdoor opportunities many of which are easily accessible by public transport. These are smaller areas but they provide a little urban adventure and a chance to stay outside.
For climbers new to Boston it is worth noting that in the pre-gym era, generations of city climbers honed their craft and kept in shape on weeknights and lunch breaks just outside the city at places like Hammond Pond to the west and Quincy Quarries to South. More recently Middlesex Fells has become popular with boulderers looking to stay outside but not stray far from the city.
