Description Suggest change

Die Sternwarte (The Observatory) is the formation immediately west of The Guardian. The five established routes are densely clustered along the middle of the west-facing wall. This is the Original Meat Wall of Li Ming - bring 4 each of #3s and #4s to get on the classic Faultline and dual-crack Total Eclipse. All 5 established pitches here are long and highly recommended making it best to start early and climb them all in one visit. It is also easy to link this wall with The Guardian; it only takes 10 minutes to walk between the two cliffs, but it deserves a full day visit. Shade in the morning and sun afternoon through evening.

Getting There Suggest change

See the Guardian approach, then rather than hiking directy up to the Guardian, follow a well worn trail that contours left than up the slope to the front nose of Die Sternwarte. When at the cliff, walk left along the trail below the steep slope under the sandstones and switchback up the steep trail to the crag. Beautiful 30-40 minute approach.
