Description

Collection of Boulders around Round Pond. This Area is very similar to Blair Woods in rock quality. However, Round Pond is my personal favorite cool down spot in the fall bouldering season because it is awesome to hike out with a few cold ones and boulder a bit then kick back next to the pond and boulders and relax after a day of pulling hard.

There are many classic lines, including The Whip(V2), Bring the Ruckus(V3), Dopeman(V8), and Gadgetry(V5).

Getting There

Hike/drive to Round Pond and explore the hilltop. Most of the boulders near the top of the small hill and the "Balance Boulder" and the warm-up boulder mark the end of the area (yes it is kinda small). All the other boulders between the warm-up and the pond and the trail have great problems.

Is the arete problem left of Crimp Problem not listed here? I can't remember what it's called but I don't see it...

Edit: This comments makes half-sense. What I mean is that I don't think it's in the database because none of the problems described match up with it. Way to go me with the excellent writing skills. May 4, 2011

EDIT: posted simultaneously to Bryce's comment, but I'm leaving it!

Winter at Round Pond is totally doable. Park at the horse farm: follow directions to Blair, but keep going past the boat launch driveway and take a left when you come to the trailer with a fantastic view - there's only parking for two cars, if it's full, park on the road across from the trailer. Hike down the trail until you get to Round Pond.

Snow is definitely a problem, so some lines will be unclimbable depending. Gadgetry and the crimp face problems are easy to clean off. So is the Atlas boulder. Dopeman can stay wet, but enough sunny days in a row can dry it out. Maxim may be climbable, but the top might stay covered with snow. Basically it's like winter climbing anywhere in NE. Dec 17, 2009

round pond usually has something climbable in the winter, mostly at the top of the hill. lakeside crag and parts of the hillside also get plenty of sun in the winter and can be climbable.

park at the horse farm (or on the paved road and walk up to the horse farm). from there just walk down the fire road, or better yet, bring a toboggan and slide down the fire road to the pond. Dec 17, 2009
