Description

The North End is actually an old area little known to a large majority of Shelf goers (that is until the new Shelf guide came out.)Best visited in the spring and summer months for it goes in the shade early in the day. Full details of the area are to be had in the new Shelf Road rock guide.

Getting There

2.2 miles past the Cactus Cliff pullout (as explained in the new guide).

Drive the dirt road until just before it crosses the creek, there are two pullouts. Walk back up the road about 30 yards (south) to just past the green gate and head up the trail passing a rock kiln shortly off the road. The split in the trail 1/3rd the way up takes you to Heaven (left/straight) or to Gallagher Buttress (right). 10 min hike.

Can someone elaborate on how to get there for people who don't have the new guide? Apr 15, 2009

Lots of new routes in the neighborhood of Jono routes. I don't have any info on these except that on 11/26/17 there was substantial rockfall on the center route on the red and tan wall left of the crack. A helmet would not have mattered in the event of head trauma due to the size of the rocks. I don't have any information on the routes, but they probably need additional cleaning when no one is around.
Wear your helmet! Take care in what you grab, and always yell 'rock'. The climber saved my life by yelling in time. Nov 28, 2017
