Description
The Dump recieves lots of sun, making it a great winter destination. It also has probably the best concentration of sport routes in the NC High Country. That being said, you may find lots of people here. They'll probably be concentrated on a small handful of routes, though. The metamorphic sandstone lends itself to nice edges, pockets, and other faceholds. There's a good mix of steep and slabby routes at a variety of difficulties.
Getting There
The Dump is roadside off of Highway 221 between Blowing Rock and Linville. Coming from Blowing Rock, look for a large dirt parking lot on the left just past the Avery/Caldwell county line sign. Leave your car and hike up the obvious trail to the cliff (about 2 minutes). Aprox GPS cords to parking lot are: 36.0966547, -81.7771766
