Durrance
Aug 10, 2022 · Solo. Excellent route to free solo. Well protected and generally very easy. You must know how to do offwidth climbing. Rock is not polished as people have said. Only real challenge is the second pitch of 70ft. The rest is pretty chill. Carried a 75m dry rope up in a small backpack hooked to the side of my harness so I could do the offwidths. Rappel off the nose on the second or third rappel or your rope will get stuck. Start early because it gets hot as hell by like 8am.

The Mountaineer's Route
Jan 15, 2022 · Solo. Road was open nearly to Whitney portal Snow conditions were excellent, as was the weather and avalanche forecast was low. Left car at 4pm, was at Upper Boyscout Lake by 10pm with just trail boots and micro spikes and a heavy pack. Left upper boys out lake to summit the next day at 1030, was on the summit by 2pm, down by 430 Ascended couloir and bouldered to the top to avoid the loose snow on the traverses section Descended same way, left upper boyscout at 4am and was at car by 0630 Snow in couloir was excellent Trail was pretty obvious. In general, pretty easy due to conditions being so favorable. Never wore snowshoes, crampons and scarpa phantoms worn on summit push, wish my ice axe was a bit longer
