Description Suggest change

This mixed route climbs the ridge above the dihedral route on the right beside Flake n' Bake. It's a bit of a squeeze job, but serves as a nice beginner climb that's a bit easier than the 'Lena' routes to the right. It can easily be combined in a day with Flake n' Bake for a good introduction to Sandia slab. The hardware on the route has been updated as of Summer 2025. Originally listed as 5.6+ in the Lower Sandias guide, a modern 5.7 grade seems fair.

Begin either on the Flake n' Bake ledge or on top of a boulder just above and to the right of the ledge (where you end up if you rap that route with a 60m). Follow the bolts directly up the ridge, with the crux down around the first bolt. Place a couple of pieces in the crack and step up and right over the very small 'roof'. Try to get a piece as high up and to the left that you can, if you want to avoid a small runout to the next and final bolt. Finish by following the flake to the Flake n' Bake anchors. You can rap back to the start with a 60m.

Make sure to place sufficient redirects when setting a top-rope, to avoid the possibility that someone falls into the dihedral and decks.

Location Suggest change

This climbs the ridge above the dihedral immediately to the right of Flake n' Bake.

Protection Suggest change

Bolts and a light rack. Smaller cams fit best in the crack at the start. You won't need anything bigger than a C4 #2.
