The right of way for the railroad extends 50 feet on either side of the tracks, so while walking next to the tracks is likely safer, from the point of view of the railway it does not necessarily provide a solution. Ideally climbers should avoid being near the tracks whenever possible. We're requesting that climbers use alternative approach trails when it makes sense, such as in the case of the Frankenstein Cliff trail. If you do need to use the tracks, we want people to be aware of the situation, and to try not to spend excess time on them.
Description
The furthest route to the left and just uphill and right of The House of Blue. This route climbs an interesting line at the top of an obvious drainage system just up and right of the top of The House of Blue.
There are two possible variations to the route with two finishes. The FA took the variation to the right that sends you up a steeper finish but crosses over a thinly veiled slab that often is undermined with hollow ice and running water. Caution should be exercised if one decides to take this variation.
The left-most variation is less interesting but has better ice and an interesting finish to the right of a small ice pillar.
*Note: The first few moves on this route when the First Ascent was done while climbing an ice curtain with a large hole in it showcasing the rushing water behind. A little spooky but an interesting line nonetheless.
