Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
The first 2 protection bolts take you over some junky looking (but fairly solid) pegmatite/rock. Then follow a few bolts on a rightward rising traverse with juggy handholds, fun. The route then follows a series of corners past the next several bolts and up to a restful ledge where you can contemplate the wild looking traverse left under the large roof (and just above another one). At the end of the roof, head straight up past another 3 or so bolts to the chains. It may feel like you just did more than a 1 pitch sport 5.10. This is quality.
Location
This is the left of 2 bolted lines found between Mourning Glory and TOT (redacted). The right line is Hem and Haw. From below, use the fixed line approach to Mourning Glory, walk right, and then scramble up and right. The scramble is fairly short and about 3rd Class but very exposed - test your holds! Arrive on a ledge at the base of these 2 routes. Each one has a single belay bolt at the start.
