Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Sewanee, Tennessee.
St. Andrew's-Sewanee School is an independent, Episcopal, Boarding and Day school serving grades 6-12. Located right next to the University of the South, the school has a sprawling 550-acre campus that shares a border with the University's more than 13,000-acre campus. St. Andrew's-Sewanee School features more than 13 miles of mountain biking trails and a nearly freestanding sandstone arch with bolted sport climbs. The routes are mostly overhanging with large holds and are typically shaded. Most of the routes currently have perma draws, and the bolts tend to be close together. The routes range from 5.5 to 5.13-, with potential for additional routes, link-ups, and bouldering starts. If you have any questions or would like to report hardware issues, please contact:Jeff Christopher jchristopher@sasweb.orgOutdoor Coordinator Michael Short mshort@sasweb.orgFor more information on SAS or to book a visit, please contact the admission office at admission@sasweb.org From Monteagle, take 41A towards Sewanee. Turn right on Quintard Road, marked by stone gates as the entrance to the school. Drive all the way through campus. This is a public road, but you will be in the middle of a school campus, so drive slowly. Stay left on Quintard and go past all the academic buildings on your left until you reach a "T" at Fire Tower Rd. Take a left here and drive until you reach a powerline cut, where you will park. Make sure you do not block any roads or driveways and do not park on the driveways. Alternatively, just before the powerline cut, you will see a sign for Bobcat trail and you can park at the pull-off there.
This is the sport climbing wall. Family friendly spot with a rope swing and some fun sport climbing. Probably room for more routes, contact Jeff or Michael if you want to add more. From the powerline cut, walk on the gravel driveway for a few feet and immediately cut right on the Salamander Meander trail. Walk on this trail for a few minutes until you see a trail that branches off down and right. Follow this to the crag.
A small, secluded crag with just a few yet high-quality routes. 45-50 minutes on Fiery Gizzard rim trail until reaching a wooden footbridge over a small creek. Descend an old rebar ladder on the left.
