Description Suggest change

Pleasure Dome is one of the very first Wonderland crags, the crown jewel of Wonderland North, and should likely be considered one of the premier cliffs in the South Platte for a day of cragging. This quarter-mile-wide cliff hosts 30 routes (and counting) ranging from 5.5 to 5.12 with most coming in between 5.7 and 5.10, and stretching up to 300 feet tall. Rock quality ranges from a bit scrittly to fully bulletproof. Climbers will find this crag to be a microcosm of The Platte, featuring a variety of sport, mixed, and trad lines that will put your footwork to the test.

While many of the routes here are certainly more modern in style than other regions in the Platte, Pleasure Dome has its fair share of runouts, making it an excellent place especially to train for bigger or scarier objectives in places like Cathedral Spires. Keep us honest on the grading!

Getting There Suggest change

Park as for the South Buck Gulch trailhead. Follow the trail for a mile before leaving the trail at a subtle turnoff at the apex of a hairpin (pictured, GPS coordinates: 39.3951 -105.3671). Follow this log highway for a few minutes to a boulder outcropping at the top of the ridge.

The cairns to the left follow a log highway to the base of the cliff, dropping you right at the base of “Life Is Good”. The cairns to the right take you along the top of the crag, where you can find top access to many routes and the multi-pitch climbs. Continuing down leads to a descent gully that spits you out at the base of the “Bloody Crack” outcropping.

First timers should budget at least 30 minutes each way for the approach. With experience, that drops a bit.
