Description Suggest change

An often noticed but overlooked area that's briefly described in Haas's guidebook, Wonderland lives up to its name. While it is a slab climber's paradise (like much of the platte), Wonderland has something to offer for just about everyone with cracks, slabs, face climbs, and a variety of high quality bouldering smattered across its ~5sqmi area.

Documented development in the area started in the early 2000s by Jay Vonesh with a handful of routes being put in across 2-3 formations, there's now a over 100 routes across many more formations, as well as a number of classic boulder problems with countless more available to those willing to explore and those climbing at the higher range of the grade spectrum.

Expect to find this area littered with raspberries, mushrooms, owl pellets, bones, deer/elk scat, oddly friendly magpies, unnerving signs of big cats, great views, and a lot of solitude. Please drive carefully and be mindful of the locals who call this beautiful area home.

Getting There Suggest change

There are two main options for getting to the Wonderland area:

One option is to drive US Hwy 285 to the turnoff at Wellington Lake Rd. at the Rustic Station. Continue down this road to the first Y-junction. Take the left option down Echo Valley Rd. Continue on down merging onto EOS Mill Rd. Wonderland starts here at the Miller Gulch Trailhead or continue on down to the Buck Gulch Trailhead.

Another option is to drive Deckers Rd., and turn west onto FR 550. Continue down this road until you turn right onto Redskin Creek Rd. (soon to be renamed to Ute Creek Rd.). This road will eventually merge into EOS Mill Rd., just shy of Miller Gulch Trailhead.

Miller Gulch Trailhead and Buck Gulch Trail - South Trailhead are both named locations on Google Maps, so putting these into your GPS should get you the fastest way there.

The road is unavoidably gravel, but high clearance isn't needed, nor is 4WD/AWD unless there's been a recent snow/ice.
