Description
This area lies along a brook on the western side of the Shaw Trail and east of Rond Pond Brook.
If the Swamp Boulders are to Boulder Natural, The Deep is to New Natural. On the other side of the hill from NN but close enough to hit both in the same day.
The majority of the boulders sit in the valley on either side of of the brook. A medium size boulder field, with medium to large boulders. most top outs are between 10’ and 15’ with relatively good landings.
Getting There
From the new South Mountain lot walk 1 mile taking the South Ridge Connector to the South Ridge Trail to the Shaw Trail . After the stepping stones and the Slab Step Up that challenges many mountain bikers, Walk 175 feet and you will see a flat short boulder with a unique tree that forms a bench. The little flat boulder sits on the edge of the trail with a white diamond trail maker on either side of it.
Follow the climbers path into the woods till you cross a little brook (this may be a dry wash in summer and fall).
Follow the faint trail till you come to a medium boulder with a 45º overhang facing down hill. Start to trend right down hill finding the steep chute that brings you to another brook. Walk along the brook till you can cross easily into the boulder field.
