The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Per Allentg: please be extra careful to avoid conflicts with the local residents due to the twisty road, lack of parking, and the boulder being so close to the road. Consider climbing elsewhere! There was enough concern to request deleting this subarea.
Description
This area is accessed via a narrow dirt road through a residential neighborhood, and The Miracle Boulder is literally on the road. Please be respectful of the neighborhood residents - this means driving slowly, carpooling if you can, and leaving your dogs and speakers at home. It is worth double checking your Gaia or OnX apps carefully before doing too much exploring/developing here. There is lots of private property up the hill that is not well-marked.
"Please don’t rush to climb here, and if you absolutely must climb these blocks, please consider going solo. Oftentimes, gatekeeping is a direct response to us climbers proving ourselves unable to respect the local area." - read the comments below for more information.
Per Allentg: it's frustrating that there will be no recourse for the access/safety issues that will inevitably arise from this area being posted. The canyon cannot sustain more climbers and I have already witnessed a road hazard from people/dogs in the road. There should be some respect for the residents that commute on that road as well as the general consensus to keep the area low key. I worry that the inevitable increase in climbers will not be sustainable in the canyon and strain relations with the local residents due to the dangerous nature of the road, lack of legal parking, and the boulder being right on the road. Although the boulder is on National Forest land, I believe that there will be significant access issues in the near future.
