Description
Located south of the beachside camping in Kalle, Paradiset (“paradise”) is a series of boulders and cliffs that flank the Norwegian sea and sit in the shadow of Storpillaren and other alpine peaks. The climb range from easy to hard and contain a healthy mix of trad and sport routes. Because many of the cliff/boulder tops are accessible, it is relatively easy to set up top rope anchors. Because of these factors, it is a relatively popular area, particularly the Main Cliff area.
Getting There
From the E10 turn south on Vaganveien at signs for Hopen and Kalle Rorbu. Drive south for 0.8km then turn right onto a dirt road and take this for 2.7km to the fishing village of Kalle. Turn right and drive to the public beach. At 3.3km turn right and park in a small grassy parking area. This second parking area is occasionally roped off, so consider parking near the porto-potties/public camping and walking the extra 3 minutes.
From the parking area, follow well worn trails to the southwest, crossing fields and the alpine lake Kallevatnet on your right. You’ll descend into a small water body that drains into a rocky beach, where there is additional camping. To the right (west) are the Main Cliff areas as well as Swedish Direct, while to the left (east) are Living in Paradise and Storsvaet. To access the closer areas, the approach is perhaps 10-15 minutes tops. For The Boulders and other farther spots, it might take up to 30 minutes.
