Description
Fourth Buttress has a handful of sport routes that stay dry in the rain. Only problem with that is you wont stay dry in the rain as you hike in. Routes are steep and worth checking out. Because of the approach FB does not see a lot of traffic, so expect some of the routes to be a little dirty. The sun will keep you warm from Mid morning into the late afternoon.
Getting There
Two ways to get there. First, Follow the cliffband from Third Buttress, and be prepared to bushwhack. This takes about 5-10 minutes from Third Buttress. Second approach option. From the railroad grade walk until you see a small sandy outcropping on the river side, once you come across that turn around and walk 50 feet to a discernible trail leading towards the cliff. This trail eventually drops off into nothing and leaves you to bushwhack about 100 yards or so to the base of the crag. The term bushwhack is used lightly in the late fall, as it is mostly clear but in the summer and spring this could be a little adventurous. Total time from the car is about 45 minutes.
